Dr. Wynonia Dunn
I have prepared many students in a classroom setting and one-on-one over the years to take the SAT, PSAT, ACT, GMAT and GRE. I worked with students at EXCEL Learning Systems in Fairfax Virginia preparing students to take the tests needed for admission to colleges and graduate schools. Always fascinated with technology, I saw how students learned more efficiently when technology was integrated with face-to-face instruction. At the end of 2012, I closed the physical office of EXCEL Learning Systems to focus on developing and implementing test preparation courses that use technology but still provide the face-to-face interaction with students that is so vital to the learning process.
Over the past few years I have continued to work with students to prepare them for the PSAT, SAT, ACT, and GRE using web conferencing programs that create virtual classrooms. I use all of the traditional teaching tools – whiteboards, PowerPoint Visuals, worksheets – but now have access to new tools and features that make learning easier, more effective, and more efficient. Students now get immediate answers to their questions, not the next day or the next week. We work collaboratively in real time to improve their essays, solve hard problems, and answer difficult questions to long, complex passages. Students appreciate the convenience. Instead of rushing to another activity or tutor, they go to class while staying at home. My students and I like the new classroom. We wouldn’t go back.
I earned my PhD from Virginia Tech in Educational Research and Evaluation. I also have an MBA from Loyola College, a MEd and BA from Miami University. Prior to opening EXCEL Learning Center in 1987 with Dr. Beemer, I worked for American College Testing and Fairfax County Public Schools, Fairfax, Virginia.
